Supporting your hormones through the holidays
‘Tis the season for jam packed schedules, holiday parties and family gatherings.
The holidays can be stressful and impact hormonal health, but there are plenty of simple tools and practices to help keep you feeling your best while enjoying this festive time of year.
Here are some tips you can implement to support your hormones this holiday season:
🗓 Track your cycle so you know where you’ll be at any given time and you can plan accordingly. For example, if you’ll be bleeding during Christmas, do your big shopping trips early, stock up the fridge and meal prep, let loved ones know, ask for some support and plan to set aside time for yourself to rest when you can.
💧 Stay hydrated! Low levels of hydration creates extra stress in the body and hinders your body’s ability to eliminate toxins and excess hormones. Adding electrolytes or a pinch of Celtic sea salt to your water can be super helpful for maintaining hydration.
🍴 Eat enough protein. Protein is your BFF for keeping you satiated (so you don’t overindulge) and supporting healthy blood sugar levels (keeping your energy and mood stable). Make sure all meals include a protein source (especially breakfast)!
🛌 Rest when you can and give yourself permission to have some alone time. Even just 10-20 minutes can make the world of a difference. Sleeping schedules can get wonky during this time of year, so rest and nap when you can!
🚶🏻♀️ Go for walks. Walking helps support energy levels, digestion, blood sugar balance and boosts mood. It’s a great activity to do with loved ones, especially after a big meal or some Christmas treats, so invite them along!
🫖 Herbal teas are great for supporting digestion, reducing stress and inflammation. My favourites are ginger, dandelion, peppermint, and chai rooibos.
Most importantly…. HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS! Don’t stress about eating perfectly! Joy and connection are essential aspects of a lifestyle that is supportive for hormone health. ❤️💚
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season filled with love, warmth, and delicious food.
